![]() Overall, I was often frustrated with Boson X, but I also kept coming back to it. The all-important soundtrack is more consistent, and while it’s not up to Super Hexagon standards, it’s still pretty good. The visual design is either an eye-popping treat or astonishingly inconvenient for gameplay purposes it varies from moment to moment. Other things can’t be adjusted to, however, like the unbalanced procedural generation that doesn’t realize how much easier and harder certain obstacle patterns are. Said controls are rather unintuitive – holding left or right prolongs your jump just as holding up does, rather than shifting multiple lanes – but once you adjust, smoothly flying through a level is satisfying. That’s pretty much it, but the game makes the most of it, with wild, shifting levels that test every facet of the movement controls. 'a brilliant, twitchy arcade masterpiece that pulsates. Left makes you jump on the left lane, right on the right lane, and up to jump on the current lane. The game immediately gets the player accustomed to the controls. In some ways, this makes Boson-X far easier than Super Hexagon because you have time to decide where to go next, which makes it a more accessible game for newcomers to skill-based twitch games.īoson-X is a lot easier to get a handle on than it seems. Super Hexagon is all about split second movements while Boson-X allows you to see farther into the level, allowing the player to decide where to go next.
